Refund & Return policies

Overview

We want you to be happy with what you buy from us. Because our shop carries two very different kinds of products — **digital** (like type files) and **physical** (print editions and goods) — the rules differ by type. The short version: most physical goods can be returned within **15 days** if they're unused and in original condition, while **Margin Notes Editions and all digital downloads are final sale.** The details are below.

This policy covers purchases from our online store only. Custom or commissioned creative work (branding, web, video, and other studio services) is not an e-commerce purchase and is governed by the separate agreement for your project.

## Digital products (4to Type & other downloads)

Because digital goods are delivered instantly and can't be returned, **all sales of digital products are final once the download has been made available to you.** We're not able to offer refunds or exchanges on type files or other downloads simply because of a change of mind.

We will always make it right if something is genuinely wrong, including:
- You were charged twice or charged in error.
- You received the wrong product or a corrupted or incomplete file.
- A defect in the file prevents it from working as described.

If any of these apply, email us at shop@4tostudio.com within 15 days of purchase and we'll repair, replace, or refund it. Licensing questions — how and where you're allowed to use a typeface — are handled under our type licence terms, not as returns.

## Physical products

**4to Goods and general merchandise.** You may return an eligible item within **15 days of delivery.** To qualify, it must be **unused, undamaged, and in its original condition and packaging.**

**Margin Notes Editions.** Because these are produced in limited runs, **Editions are final sale** and can't be returned or exchanged for a change of mind. If an Edition arrives damaged or defective, we'll of course make it right — see below.

To start an eligible return, email shop@4tostudio.com with your order number before sending anything back, and we'll confirm the return address and next steps. Please don't ship items back to us without contacting us first. Once we receive and inspect the item, we'll email you to confirm approval or, if it doesn't meet the conditions above, explain why. Approved refunds go back to your original payment method.

## Damaged, defective, or wrong items

If your order arrives damaged, defective, or isn't what you ordered, that's on us to fix — this applies to every product, including Margin Notes Editions. Email shop@4tostudio.com within 15 days of delivery with your order number and a photo of the issue, and we'll arrange a replacement or a full refund — including any return shipping — at no cost to you.

## Items that can't be returned

- Digital downloads and licensed files (once delivered)
- Margin Notes Editions (final sale)
- Gift cards
- Made-to-order, personalized, or custom items
- Final-sale or clearance items marked as such

## How refunds are processed

Approved refunds are issued to your original payment method (card or PayPal) within 5–10 business days of approval. Depending on your bank or card issuer, it can take a few additional days for the credit to appear on your statement.

Original shipping charges are non-refundable except when the return is due to our error (a damaged, defective, or incorrect item).

**Late or missing refunds:** If your refund hasn't appeared after the window above, check with your bank or card issuer first, as posting times vary. If it still hasn't arrived, email us at shop@4tostudio.com and we'll track it down.

## Return shipping

Unless the return is due to our error, you're responsible for return shipping costs, and original shipping is non-refundable. For higher-value items we recommend a trackable service, since we can't guarantee we'll receive an untracked return.

## International orders

Delivery times for exchanges vary by destination. Any customs duties or import taxes you paid are set by your country and are non-refundable by us. If you're shopping from the EU or UK, you may have additional statutory return rights under local consumer law — those rights always apply on top of this policy.

## Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The version posted here at the time of your purchase is the one that applies to your order.
